Why are the leaves on my houseplant turning yellow? There are three main reasons why you might see this. 1.) Inconsistant watering Are you letting it dry out sometimes or be soppiing wet others? Lots of plants want consistance in watering. Come on down to Woodland Gardens and we'll help you figure out what schedule is best for your plant. 2.) Too much water Some plants don't react well to overwatering. Try cutting back your watering a little bit. If you're still having trouble bring your plant down to Woodland Gardens so we can have a look at it and help. 3.) In some plants, like hibiscus, gardenias, ficus, and other tropicals, leaves that are exposed to too little sunlight will yellow and drop. |
Why did the edges of my leaves turn brown? 1.) A lot of times this is evidence that the plant suffered a period of drought. If you are not aware of this occuring see the next possibility. 2.) You also may have over-fertilized. Cut back on feeding. However, some plant have specific reasons for this behavior. If the first two suggestions don't apply come down and see us and we'll pinpoint what went wrong. |
What do I do about the bugs on my plants? Sometimes houseplants can be home to bugs. Common ones you may find are spider mite, white fly, aphid, and fungus gnats. Bugs often show up when plants are brought into the house after a period of being outside. If a houseplant suffers any period of stress it is more likely to become inhabited as well. There are many different products available and your best bet is to bring us a sample to identify and we'll help you treat it. |
I think my plant has a disease Common houseplant diseases such as powdery mildew, various fungus problems, black spot, and rust, are easily treated once identified. Bring us a sample! |
My plant is brown and wilty. Whats wrong? 1.) Does your pot have drainage? If you plant's roots are constantly in water it can be very unhealthy for your plant. A pot with drainage is best. If your pot doesnt have it, a layer of pebbles at the bottom will help. 2.) How long has your plant been in the same soil? A plant should recieve fresh soil every 1 to 2 years. |
My plant doesn't seem to be growing as well as it used to. Your plant may be pot bound. If the roots are too confined it may stunt the growth. You should let us see if your plant needs to be repotted (which we can do for you). However, some plants do like to be root bound. The Woodland Gardens staff will help you determine what to do. |
